Warning from the Fire Department about a new internet “challenge”
Chief Judge would like to inform parents of a new “challenge” that has gone viral and could lead to a fire.
State Fire Marshal Peter Ostroskey released an advisory on Tuesday January 21, 2020 to inform the general public of two incidents that have taken place in Massachusetts. There have not been any reports of this type of incident taking place in Concord, but the fire department would like parents to be aware of the new challenge.
The challenge found on the popular app, Tik-Tok, consists of partially inserting a phone charger plug in to a socket and then sliding a penny down the wall onto the exposed prongs. The result causing sparking, and may lead to electrical damage and also may cause a fire.
Parents who are concerned that their children may be involved with this type of challenge should look for burnt outlets, or outlets that have been tampered with.
Anyone who has any concerns or questions should feel free to contact our fire prevention staff at (978) 318-3489.
